Northern Uganda Gets  Healthcare Boost as C-Care Unveils Specialist Hospital in Gulu

Uganda’s largest private healthcare network, has officially inaugurated its new C-Care Hospital Gulu, marking a transformative shift in medical accessibility for Northern Uganda.

This expansion brings specialised medical services directly to the Acholi, Lango, and West Nile sub-regions, communities that have historically travelled hundreds of kilometres to Kampala for essential procedures.

According to officials, the  launch marks a milestone in C-Care’s 30th year of operations, bridging the healthcare gap by establishing a permanent, high-tech presence in Gulu, while offering advanced diagnostics, emergency services, and specialist consultations to a region that has long faced a deficit in private specialist care.

Andrew Mugalu, General Manager of C-Care IMC, while speaking at the launch, emphasised the practical impact of the new facility, notign that Northern Uganda's infrastructure has traditionally lagged behind  and that C-Care Uganda’s full-service facility seeks to correct this imbalance.

“Our doctors can now practice evidence-based medicine with total confidence, supported by on-site imaging and diagnostics that significantly improve patient outcomes. C-Care Hospital Gulu marks the end of an era where patients in the north had to choose between delayed care or an exhausting journey south. That choice should never have existed; today, we are making sure it no longer does," Mugalu said.

Officials said the C-Care Gulu  Hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostics, including on-site CT imaging and digital X-rays that previously required referrals to Kampala.

It also boasts specialised staff, including resident radiologists, technologists, and emergency specialists, as well as integrated care with seamless transitions between outpatient, emergency, and inpatient departments.

“Our investment in Gulu reflects our belief that geography should never dictate the quality of healthcare a person receives. Gulu City deserves a facility capable of providing definitive treatment and sophisticated diagnostics on-site, moving beyond mere stabilization for transport. By elevating C-Care IMC Gulu to a full-scale hospital, we are establishing a permanent cornerstone for clinical excellence that will serve Northern Uganda for decades to come," said Helene Echevin, the CEO of C-Care International.

Officials said C-Care Hospital Gulu has already confirmed plans for immediate expansion, which will include 55 additional inpatient beds, a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a dedicated mother and child centre, and an accident and emergency unit.
